Spoutstock is Almost Here! July 19!

It’s our time to shine again – Spoutstock.

We present for your approval the 10th anniversary of Spoutstock—8:30 on July 19th at Mario’s Keller Bar, 2300 University Avenue NE, Mpls, 55418 (lower level of the Gasthof).

For newcomers, Spoutstock is Spout Press’ annual fundraiser, a cover song contest and good-time party. We get some of our favorite local rock stars to descend into the totally chill basement of Mario’s Keller Bar and express their personal love for you by playing a cover song.

Our panel of celebrity judges will take careful notes and duly assign the judges’ award for best cover song. Said celebrities include Jacquie Fuller (host of 89.3’s “Teenage Kicks”) Peter Scholtes (City Pages music writer and beyond) and Dylan Hicks (rock star/novelist). But that’s only the judges’ award. You the audience will decide on the coveted audience choice award and trophy.

You’ll get a ballot and a pencil and a good time. Remember last year, when the Cactus Blossoms made us stand up and clap with our mouths open? All we want to do is dream, still.

And there’s something new! This year it could be you on stage. That’s right, we will hold one spot in the roster for a member of the audience. If you put your name in the hat, you might end up on stage. Haven’t you always fantasized about that?

You’re going to be great, but first you have to show up.

We’ve already got Truth Maze, Venus DeMars, Kevin Bowe, Fizz Kizer, Courtney Yasmineh, Jayanthi Kyle, members of Painted Saints and more special surprise guests performing. AND dancing with DJ Hapka to follow the cover song contest. You wanna dance with us right?

Cover is 7 dollars and all of it goes back into Spout, probably publishing people you know. Plus if you can only come up with 5.65 or whatever, it’s ok. We’ll let it slide.

Remember, Spout Press is an all-volunteer non-profit collective. Your money goes right into making books and magazines and events featuring writers and artists from your community.

We might even have a new issue of Spout Magazine for you, featuring local writers such as Lightsey Darst, Sarah Fox, Kirsten Dierking, Holly Day and more. Will you come out? It’s gonna be so much fun and for one happy democratic moment, you’ll really feel invested in voting.

Help us bang our gong. We’re in this together.

True Love Always,

Spout Press
