For thirty years, Spout Press has existed as a small, all-volunteer, non-profit literary publisher. We have worked first through Spout Magazine and later as Spout Press, to publish and promote contemporary experimental writing, mentor young writers, and bring new and/or underappreciated voices to the attention of a larger audience.
We have published hundreds of local and regional writers, as well as nationally known authors such as Hoa Nguyen, Dessa, Ed Bok Lee, Jim Northrup, Stephanie Burt, Alison McGhee, Charles Bukowski, Larissa Szporluk, Sarah Manguso, Hadara Bar-Nadav, Richard Siken, Howard Zinn, and many more.
Our newest book series, Out of Pocket, includes titles by Juliet Patterson, Rachel Jendrzejewski, J. Otis Powell!?, Brianna Johnson, and Carolyn Holbrook. The series focuses on expanding and promoting the local literary conversation in regard to experimentation, current issues, and new voices. Other titles include anthologies such as Locker Room Talk: Women in Private Spoces, Workhaus Collective: An Anthology of Plays, Blink, and Blink Again. Learn more by visiting the Titles page. New anthologies and single author works are in production. We can’t wait to share them with you!
Spout Press is also committed to fostering the artistic community by hosting literary events, performances, and interdisciplinary collaborations, and to the vision of independent publishing. We are here because we love literature and we love this community of readers and writers.
Our Mission
Spout Press publishes and promotes the finest in contemporary experimental writing — mentoring young writers and bringing new and/or under-appreciated voices to the attention of a larger audience. This is accomplished through the publishing of books and the production of live events within the community. Both strive to combine artistic genres to facilitate dialogue between the film, music, visual art, and literary communities creating synergy that expands possibilities for both artists and audiences.
