MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Spout Press has gathered thirty-eight authors, united by their ability to use a moment to stand for the whole, in a unique anthology titled blink-forty-one short stories of under one-thousand words each edited by John Colburn and Margaret Miles.
The emergence of sudden fiction on the literary landscape has brought this once obscure literary style to maturity. It is unique in its ability to liberate the writer from the conventions of form allowing that first creative impulse to stand on its own.
It is with this sense of adventure and experimentation that Spout Press put forth the challenge to the inhabitants of Minnesota build a story with only 1000 words. A flood of brown manila envelopes filled with submissions followed; the best of which appear in this collection. Authors represented in the anthology include nationally-known writers Jim Heynen, Jonis Agee and Jim Northrup; local favorites Alison McGhee, William Reichard, and Lon Otto; and frequent Spout Press contributors Jennifer Willoughby, Scott Vetsch and Emily Graves.
